LJ
As everyone seems to be very worried about their Livejournals at the moment I've made a beta release of my Livejournal backup tool available, which should, hopefully, resolve a longstanding connection problem, and tidies up the downloaded results - rather than many files, you only end up with one backup file, which is a SQLite database.

As it's beta software and unfinished it lacks a couple of features the finished software will have, mainly:
  • Can't view or search entries - but as the result file is a SQLite database you can use this quite frankly excellent tool to query and export the data.
  • Can't adjust settings - which means unfortunately you can't specify proxy servers or other services, e.g DeadJournal

Hopefully this public beta test will allow people to backup their journals and re-assure themselves, and I can carry on working on adding additional features.

D'oh, I just noticed that the Paypal link on the site pointed to an old email address - I've updated it to use my current one, so if you donated and it got returned to you, please donate again, using the new button on the site.

Or, if you just want to donate, that's good too ;)

LJ Backup V1.1.0 Released!

Hey all. Managed to get a chance to look into and correct the issues with comments downloading not working correctly, and hopefully the issue with "Data sent from LJ was corrupt" error when downloading entries, too. If you experience any bugs let me know. I'm currently working on a full upgrade to LJ Backup, this is sort-of an interim release to correct these bugs.

Get it here:
EXE Installer ( Recommended ) [392kb]
Zip file with Installer [377kb]
No Installer ( Not recommended ) [320kb]

Version 1.0.7
Sorry about the long delay - I had to put a lot of little projects I do on hiatus for about a year, due to university. This is just a quick update to say that the website had been broken for a few days when I switched to a new host, but it is fixed now, and that a new version is available:

Version 1.0.7:
This version fixes the ability to download all of the comments in your journal from the server. It also has a few little tweaks here and there which should improve performance.

You can get it from the website, or for the lazy, here are some links:
EXE Installer ( Recommended ) [387kb]
Zip file with Installer [370kb]
No Installer ( Not recommended ) [315kb]

Does anyone know of any communities which might want to know about this? I'm not sure of any really myself. If you do, let me know in a comment.

First update in too long.
I'm sorry to have left it so long updating this - I've been pretty much off the Internet for a year whilst I worked on my final year project at University. I'll be finished that (one way or another) soon, so either way as soon as I get more free time I'll be updating this. Yes, I know that comments downloader is broken, that's because the LJ protocol has changed a little in the meantime. I'll be addressing that in the next version.

Sorry for two updates in one day, but this is sortof important: You can now restore entries made from LJ Backup to a website using the Web Restore Tool available here. You can't use this to restore to LiveJournal or DeadJournal; A seperate tool which does that is under development. This tool is useful for hosting an off-lj copy of your blog, probably on your own site.
